Brand impersonation

Verify the brand independently before sharing personal information.

Fraudsters create fake casting calls under the name of a real brand. They use the brand's logo, copy from a real campaign, and hope you don't double-check. By the time you've sent your phone number and ID photos, the trail is cold. Cross-check every brand offer against the brand's actual official channels.

What to look for

  • An email or DM from a free Gmail address claiming to be a major brand
  • A WhatsApp number claiming to be 'the brand's casting director'
  • Brand offer that doesn't appear on the brand's own website / Instagram
  • Misspelled brand name (e.g. 'Vlisko' instead of 'Vlisco')
  • Asking for ID, address, or BVN before any agreement is in place

What to do

  1. Search the brand's official website for the campaign — if it's not there, it's not real.
  2. DM the brand's official Instagram and ask if the casting is theirs.
  3. Refuse to share BVN, NIN, or address until a written contract is signed.
  4. If a brand asks for sensitive info via WhatsApp, escalate to email and verify the domain.
  5. On Shoot: only apply through the brief detail page — never via DM.
